MotorCloud Sees Traffic Increase as EV’s Surge

Broomfield, CO, USA – April 21, 2022 – MotorCloud.com has seen a boost in website traffic from the popularity of EVs, and surging sales, over the last year.

Since the selection of available EVs – electric vehicles – is limited amid a car market with already lower than normal supply, MotorCloud provides a unique advantage in that it provides shoppers access to all EVs in the car market, providing significantly more supply compared to other sites. (MotorCloud.com is a search engine that indexes every vehicle on the internet, in the US).

“We’ve seen our overall site traffic increase 179% in the last year, with a 232% increase in searches for EVs. This segment is red hot and we forecast that to continue at least through 2022,” said MotorCloud.com Founder Mike Goicoechea.

Almost as many EVs were sold in the first half of 2021 (310,000) as all of 2020 (322,000). Almost a third of 2021 EV sales came from California alone.

As infrastructure for EV charging networks has seen boosts from private and public sector interest, electric car sales in the US last year were above 2020 levels by a healthy margin. With the federal government signaling the potential for more laws favoring zero-emission vehicles, and oil prices facing volatility with the war in Ukraine, the trend of increased EV sales should continue, and possibly accelerate.

“Tougher standards on internal combustion engines regarding emissions and fuel economy is also in the mix as the United States moves toward a plan for 50 percent all-electric and plug-in hybrid sales by 2030,” said a recent article on GreenCars.com.

Tesla led global sales growth, selling over 386,000 units in the first quarter, followed by the Volkswagen Group with 332,000 units sold. General Motors came in the third spot with sales of 227,000 units in the first quarter. Ford followed with very strong showings for its Mustang Mach-e, for which it has already tripled production, and the all electric F-150 lightning, which should be hitting dealerships this spring.

As consumers shop for vehicles – and EVs become an increasing part of that mix – MotorCloud.com will continue to be the leading source for these vehicle listings.
